What constitutes “involvement?”

And what level of ”involvement” is appropriate? 

Shortly after Michael Vick plead guilty, the ASPCA announced that one of their vets conducted the necropsy on the dogs excavated from the Surry County property.  To me, the ASPCA’s involvement was appropriate in the Vick case.

Furthermore, the Michael Vick case should be an example for how all dog fighting cases should be handled, and the distinct roles each organization should play.  Read the rest »

Most Ridiculous Bill Ever

There is a petition posted on the Care2 Petitionsite that is asking people to show their support for HR 3327, an amendment to the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit dog fighting ventures.  Sounds good, right?  However, approval of this act would allow “any animal control agency, humane society, or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals may commence a civil suit to enjoin any private party who is alleged to be in violation of any provision of this section concerning animal fighting.”  Read the rest »

Anne Arundel County Arrest

Two people were arrested in an affluent Maryland community last week, in what appears to be a text book case of how dog fighting cases should be handled.  Neighbors heard dogs growling and people cheering and notified the police. Read the rest »
